Overview

We want to make Courier the most beautiful and striking business magazine anywhere in the world. We’re looking for an outstanding creative talent to lead that process.

The successful candidate

You’ll have original and exceptional creative instincts, and be able to inspire a highly engaged group with your vision, experience and ability.

You’ll be able to create something in tune with the Courier vision (the defining media brand for startup culture and modern business), its values (authority and authenticity) and readership (curious, imaginative and metropolitan).

You will have a portfolio of high calibre work and senior level experience on magazines.

What you’ll be doing

The role breaks down into three key areas:

  1. Lead both concept development and execution of Courier’s magazine covers.
  2. Develop the visual components of the magazine; e.g. photography, grids, illustration, etc.
  3. Come up with the visual interpretation of our lead features.

Details

The role will report into Courier’s CEO and publisher, Jeff Taylor.

We are flexible on whether this is a contract or permanent position.

Editorial assistant

Overview

We have a unique opportunity for someone to gain wide-ranging and practical experience in journalism. Courier has a small but highly ambitious editorial team creating stories for the magazine and digital platforms.

The successful candidate

You’ll be practical and enthusiastic to learn about how to make a magazine; insatiably curious and always questioning; willing to take on any task, no matter how big or small; and intrigued by the world of startups and modern business.

What you’ll be doing

  1. Researching stories.
  2. Writing short stories.
  3. Proof reading.
  4. Finding interesting pictures.
  5. Supporting our photographer on shoots.
  6. Managing our social channels.
  7. Publishing stories online.

The role will report into the editor, Soheb Panja.

Digital and social manager

Overview

Building our digital presence is the top priority for Courier in 2018 and beyond. We want to find a skilled operator who can grow our reach online and across digital platforms while being true to our editorial principles. We want to make Courier the best, most useful and most engaging place for startup stories, advice, discussion, analysis and insights.

The successful candidate

Being skilled, experienced and passionate about building digital audiences is the top requirement for the role. You’ll be well versed on how to build a large, sustainable and engaged community of people.

What you’ll be doing

The role breaks down into two key areas:

  1. Work with the editorial team to create and publish imaginative and engaging digital content.
  2. Grow reach across a range of platforms and intelligently interpret usage data.

Courier intern programme

Overview

We run a three to four-week internship programme to give aspiring journalists a chance to experience the making of a modern business magazine. 

The successful candidate

You’ll be a diligent researcher and fact-checker; proactive, comfortable working on several tasks at once and enthusiastic to get stuck into all aspects of the magazine.

What you’ll be doing

Interns can expect to get involved in all aspects of the editorial side of Courier, from researching story ideas and writing short pieces, through to fact-checking and subbing stories. There’s also the chance to help our commercial team with distribution and organising events.

Details

The role will report into the senior reporter, Amy Lewin.

Placements are for 3-4 weeks, and £100 expenses are paid per week.
