Junior Graphic Designer

Courier Media is looking for a talented, motivated junior designer. The position will be in support of the senior designer in the design and layout of Courier magazine and a host of other magazines published by Courier media. The ideal candidate will have a positive, flexible attitude and be keen to work as part of a growing startup.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and proactive, pays close attention to detail, can juggle numerous tasks at once, and is brimming with ideas.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce layouts and follow predefined grids for Courier magazine and other magazines published by Courier Media
  • Creative research into illustration, photography and graphic ideas and treatments
  • Provide regular updates on work progress and meet deadlines according to project schedules
  • Working with the commercial and editorial teams to develop client projects and additional partnership materials
  • Maintain Courier’s design language across brand communications

Requirements

  • Great typography and layout skills with thorough attention to detail
  • The ability to follow direction with guidance as well as work independently
  • Knowledge of magazine production and print process.
  • Keen to work a fast-paced, agile environment. At Courier you’ll hit the ground running.
  • Excited by print and digital design and keen to get involved in the continual evolution of Courier’s design language
  • Illustration skills not essential but beneficial

Advertising Executive

Overview

Advertising is a leading pillar in Courier Media’s commercial operation and we’re looking for a passionate sales person to lead this commercial function.

The Successful Candidate

  • You’ll have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, be eager for responsibility and motivated to grow the advertising side of our brand.
  • Ideally you would have a good network of people in agency print teams and brands and a clear plan for how to generate sales.
  • You might already be working in the sales team of a quality title and be itching for more responsibility. You may be in agency and keen to jump the fence for the right opportunity. Or you may have other qualities that you think compensate for this lack of immediate print sales experience.
  • Share the Courier vision and be a great ambassador for Courier’s editorial, creative and professional values.

What you’ll be doing

  • Sell advertising in Courier’s bi-monthly magazine, with the aim of driving revenue growth.
  • Establish Courier’s profile among media agency planners/buyers and direct client marketing teams.
  • Develop ideas for magazine-brand spin offs like events, sponsorships and digital properties.

Editorial internship programme

Courier runs a three-to-four week internship programme. It’s a chance to experience the inside workings of a fast-growing independent media business, see how a bi-monthly print magazine comes together, and learn about the companies shaping how we live and work today.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and proactive, pays close attention to detail, can juggle numerous tasks at once, and is brimming with ideas and stories.

The successful applicant will work with members of the Courier team across editorial, design and commercial work.

We pay £100 expenses per week.
